RSS calls Kerala shutdown to protest leader’s murder

A day after the murder of its leader KT Manoj in Kannur, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh will on Tuesday observe a dawn-to-dusk, state-wide shutdown.

The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh leader was on Monday morning attacked by unknown assailants with bombs as he was going in a vehicle in Kathiroor in Kannur district and then run through with swords, according to the local police.

Soon after the murder took place, the RSS had called for a shutdown in Kannur district, but by evening, decided to extend it throughout the state.

Kannur district for long has seen clashes between activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party/RSS and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).

The Kerala Police is on the lookout for a few CPI-M activists alleged to be behind the murder of Manoj.
