The Kakinada Rural Police today arrested three persons in connection with the Rs.42 lakhs municipal water pipelines excavation and illegal transportation scam, stated to be the first-of-its-kind. At a press conference here, the Kakinada Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) B Sai Sri said that heavy iron bead pipes of 5 meters length, 55 CMs diameter numbering 125 pieces were recovered while being disposed to the iron scrap dealers at Vijayawada.
It was masterminded by Yavanam Nagendra Naidu, a contractor of Hayatnagar in Hyderabad, Vemula Durgaiah a labour contractor of Eluru and the NMR Worker of Kakinada Municipal Water Works Hayar Venkateswerarao.
But for the meticulous planning and execution in public, it would not have been possible to excavate the underground pipes to a distance of 740 meters length and load to lorries using poclains and cranes. UNI
