Rs.3,000-crore budgetary allocation for BCs urged

Hyderabad, February 15: The Andhra Pradesh State Backward Classes Welfare Association has demanded an allocation of Rs. 3,000 crore in the 2010-11 budget for Backward Classes’ welfare as the Rs. 1,400 crore provided in the 2009 -10 budget was found to be inadequate to meet the needs.

The association leaders, led by R. Krishnaiah, its president, met Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Saturday with eight other demands ahead of the budget presentation by the latter in the Assembly on February 20.

A memorandum submitted to Mr. Rosaiah by them also sought enhancement of the allocation to the BC Corporation from the present Rs. 10 crore to Rs. 500 crore as it would have to meet increased needs of the BCs during the next fiscal.

An allocation of Rs. 100 crore each was also urged to the corporations set up for different communities. Mr. Krishnaiah told reporters later that Mr. Rosaiah had promised to take steps to fill 4.3 lakh posts in the government.
