Rajahmundry, June 05: Eight idols were seized and six persons arrested while selling the idols to a shop in Tuni mandal of East Godavari district of Andhra pradesh today.
DIG Mahesh Bhagvat told mediapersons here tonight that on a tip off police led by Tuni Circle Inspector N Madhusudan Rao raided the shop and seized the eight idols and arrested six persons in this connection.
The seven idols belong to 15 A,D era, while one idol belongs to 9 A.D, he said adding that the value of the idols in the international market would be Rs 2.5 crore.
He said the idols are made of pure silver and bronze.
The seized idols are of Paravathi, Vishnu, Bhudevi, Sridevi and remaining are Alwar and Permalu.
The idols are stolen from Chodavaram villave of V Madugla mandal of Visakhapatnam district, he said adding that six persons also hail from Visakhapatnam.
The police team has launched an intensive search to nab two other persons who have escaped in this connection.
