RS Sec asks Sadhvi Prachi to explain ‘terrorists in Parliament’ remarks

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has asked Hindutva leader Sadhvi Prachi to explain her controversial “terrorists in Parliament” remarks after some MPs moved a privilege notice against her.

Sources said the RS Secretariat has sent a letter to Prachi asking her to explain the controversial “terrorists in Parliament” remark against MPs.

A number of MPs had moved a privilege notice and asked Chairman Hamid Ansari to proceed against her. The sources said the secretariat has sought her comments before proceeding any further on the privilege notice.

Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, CPI(M) MP Sitaram Yechury and TRS member K Keshav Rao were among 20 members who had given the privilege notice against Prachi saying her remarks had “violated the dignity” of Parliament and privilege of MPs.

Prachi had courted a controversy last week by alleging that there are “one or two terrorists” in Parliament in remarks that appeared to be targeting MPs who were against hanging of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon. She made these comments in Roorkee.

“It is a big misfortune that in the Indian Parliament, we have one-two terrorists sitting there. I do not think there can be a bigger misfortune for India than this as they who, are disobeying the judgement of a court, because the court has proved that he (Yakub) is a terrorist. When the court has already proved so, those supporting the terrorist are terrorists themselves I believe,” she had said.
