New Delhi, August 04: Three Congress nominees, including former Maharasthra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, two NCP’s and one BJP candidate were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations for the bypolls ended this evening.
As no other candidate entered the race, all the six were declared elected uncontested with the Congress wresting the seat from the BJP in Rajasthan and retaining it in Haryana and Maharashtra.
Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party retained the two Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra and the BJP the only one in Chhattisgarh, returning officers in respective states said.
The three Congress candidates elected to the Upper House are Union Minister and former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh from Maharashtra, Shadi Lal Batra, an MLA, from Haryana and Narendra Bhudhaniya from Rajasthan.
Two NCP’s nominees who made it to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra are Govindrao Adik and Ranjitsinh Mohite-Patil while senior BJP leader Nand Kumar Sai found a berth in the Upper Houser from Chhattisgarh.
