New Delhi, December 07: Rajya Sabha is amending its rule to tackle the problem of members remaining absent during Question Hour.
“The rule is being amended and this situation shall be done away with very soon,” Chairman Hamid Ansari said during Question Hour today when he found that some members who had given notices for their questions were absent.
He was responding to a plea by Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), who said, “Please amend the rule”.
AIADMK members A Elavarasan and N R Govindarajar and Prabha Thakur (Congress) were not present when their questions were to be taken up.
The Question Hour in the Lok Sabha collapsed on November 30 when 28 members who had given notices for questions were absent.
In a letter to the Chairman, Shiv Sena member in the Upper House Bharatkumar Raut said a “stern view” should be taken about absentee members and their daily allowance should be deducted as penalty.
