Rs 8 lakh cash, gold and jewellery stolen from bank branch

Unidentified criminals stole Rs 8 lakh cash and gold and jewellery from a State Bank of India (SBI) branch here late last night, police said today.

The criminals used gas cutter along with a LPG cylinder to open a window and entered the bank branch in Paras Pakri bazar area and decamped with the cash and ornaments, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said.

In addition to Rs 8 lakh cash the criminals escaped with ornaments worth Rs 55 lakh, the DSP said.

They left behind the gas cutter and LPG cylinder inside the branch.

They also destroyed the CCTV Camera during the burglary, the DSP added.

Two chowkidars of Majhaulia police station identified as Mukti Prasad and Ishaq Khan have been deputed on duty but they were found absent when the incident took place, the DSP added.

Bank Manager Rahul Kumar informed the police about the of burglary after getting information from locals in the morning who sighted that the bank window was open.
