Rs 750 cr for SRSP modernization: Harish

Irrigation minister T Harish Rao today asked the officials to speed up modernization of SRSP project as the government will soon sanction Rs 750 cr for it.

Harish Rao held a review meeting at Jalasaudha here and instructed that Sriram Sagar flow will reach Manukota, Dornakal and Bhupalapally segment and distribute waters to tail-end crops. Stating that he will tour for two days at the project site, he said that the works should be completed as per time schedule to irrigate 9.68 lakh acres as per chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s directive. Negligence on part of the officials will not be tolerated and it is time for completing the project, Harish said.

Though SRSP has 8000 cusecs of carrying capacity they failed to carry even 6000 cusecs due to failure of the previous governments he said. Effective coordination of irrigation, revenue and others will give positive results and funds from collectors can be used for emergency works. He also asked to clear silt and complete works in distributories and other rivulets through employment guarantee scheme. The Collectors concerned should take steps for speedy completion of the works and fix related leakages and bottlenecks. (NSS)
