New Delhi: Unnecessary arrests and harassment by Police can at times land them in trouble when most of the times Police escapes the judiciary.
Similar is the incident of ISRO scientist who was awarded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh by the apex court on Friday today, Indian Express reported.
The SC observed that Mr Nambi Narayan was “unnecessarily arrested and harassed” by the Kerala Police.
The top court has set up a committee under Justice DK Jain to probe the matter after Narayan filed a complaint against Kerala Cops who framed him. The Centre and State will nominate a member each to the committee.
More details are awaited.
Narayan was arrested on espionage allegations on November 30, 1994, and was later exonerated by the SC.
He also approached the Apex Court seeking no action against officers associated with the case since they are already retired but sought action against Police officers who probed the espionage case against him.
The CBI stated in the SC that it was ready for a court-monitored probe.
A bench of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud had then reserved its order in July.
