Rs 5/- meal scheme will be launched in all hospitals: Mayor

GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain announced that Rs 5/- per meal scheme would be launched in all government hospitals in the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

The Mayor made this announcement while launching the Rs.5/- food scheme in Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences here on Sunday. Khairtabad MLA C Ramachandra Reddy, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, Corporator Raju Yadav and senior officials of GHMC and NIMS were also present on the occasion.

Majid Hussain said that GHMC was the only municipal corporation in the country which is providing subsidised meal which is directly benefitting the poor people every day. He assured that every rupee being collected by the GHMC would be used for the developmental works and to provide basic amenities to the citizens.

The GHMC has allocated Rs. 11 crore out its budget to provide Rs 5/- food scheme through 50 centres. So far, the scheme has been launched in 16 centres providing subsidized meals to about 5,500 people daily.

Meanwhile, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that the corporation would provide night shelter in all government hospitals to the patient’s attendants who come from far off places. The night shelters will have beds, toilets and lockers. The Standing Committee has already approved the project and tenders will be called soon, said the Commissioner.

Dr. Narendra Nath, NIMS Director, Ravi Kiran, Additional Commissioner, Somaraju, Deputy Commissioner, and others participated in the programme. (INN)
