Rs. 5 lakh fine for pronouncing ‘Triple Talaq’ in this part of UP

Sambhal: Uttar Pradesh has a long tradition of village Panchayats but the decision of Hadipur in Sambhal of UP was not only unique but also surprising.
In Hadipur village, 50, 000 Muslims are inhabited. On Thursday, the Panchayat of Hadipur resolved to impose a fine of Rs. 5 lakh on the husband who pronounces ‘Triple Talaq’. The Panchayat also reserves the right to punish him besides imposing fine.
The Chairman of Panchayat, Mr. Asrar Ahmed told that a decision has been taken to curb the practice of ‘Triple Talaq’ and hence fine would be imposed. He further said that if there is any dispute between wife and husband, then the matter can be placed before the Panchayat but in no case ‘Triple Talaq’ should not be pronounced.
It may be mentioned that a similar decision was taken by the Panchayat of Baghpat, UP on 27th April.
All India Muslim Personal Law Board had also taken a decision last month to boycott socially such husbands who exercise ‘Triple Talaq’ without any valid reasons.
