Muzaffarnagar: More than Rs 4 crore was today seized from different places of the district as part of drives to impose Model Code of Conduct, police said.
The police seized Rs 4.18 crore from four vehicles at areas under the Khatoli, Jansath and Kotwali police stations, SSP Bablu Kumar said, adding there was no valid documents against the cash.
“The persons detained claimed the cash was being taken to refill bank ATMs. This is yet to be verified. However, of the total amount we suspect Rs 66 lakh belongs to a private party,” the SSP said.
He said the police is probing the matter.
Any cash beyond Rs 50,000 could be subjected to scrutiny by EC nominated flying squads and the individual or entity carrying the amount should furnish documents in this regard., police said.
