Rs 263 cr for Vijaya Dairy modernization : Ministers

The Government run Vijaya Dairy will be modernized by spending Rs 263 cr besides increasing the milk products and making them available at all highways.

This was stated by Finance Minister E Rajender and Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav after a review meeting on government schemes implemented for backward classes and other artisans and functioning of various departments. They stated that there is a need for setting up new milk chilling centers and strengthening the existing ones on corporate standards. Stating that mobile veterinary vans should be pressed to offer services at the doorsteps of the farmers they said that efforts are to be made to enhance the Vijaya Dairy productivity and surpass private competitors.

The officials were asked to conduct wide ranging publicity in Vijaya Dairy products and take steps to set up outlets at tourist spots, temples, highways and other places where the movement of people is high. As the public demand is growing day by day plans should be drawn to set up curd plants in every district they said. Besides taking steps the Vijaya Dairy is lagging behind and it is time to modernize and strengthen it they said. As part of welfare measures the state government released 40 cr of fish seed in to various lakes, tanks and reservoirs free of cost.

They also asked for preparing a plan to set up fish stalls and cold storages and fish markets in advance to sell and procure the fish products after finding land. The officials should be wary of middlemen during the sale of fish products they alerted. The state government is providing Rs 5 lakh accident insurance to the fishermen and shepherds by collecting their details. A website was launched to provide insurance on the incident of death. Sheep, Goats growers Federation Chairman Rajaiah Yadava, TSLDA Chairman Rajeshwar Rao, Animal Husbandry principal secretary Suresh Chanda, Vijaya Dairy MD Nirmala, Fisheries in-charge commissioner Venkateshwarlu were present.(NSS)
