Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao today said Rs 25000-crore plan was getting ready to take up road-laying works, underground drainage and other facilities. He vowed to cleanse up thoroughly the GHMC to cater to the needs of the people and provide basic amenities.
In an informal chat with the mediapersons here on Wednesday, the minister maintained that he would give top priority to white top the roads in the city and to address the underground drainage problems. He said the JP Group has come forward for restoration of the roads with quality and standards and works will begin at Nagarjuna Circle and KCP Junction. It was also decided to remove the division system of major roads under the GHMC’s purview.
Besides decentralization of powers at circle level, it was decided to offer the best services by increasing the number of circles to 30 from 24, the minister stated. KTR also felt that need for providing better amenities to the citizens of the twin cities. Referring to reorganization of districts, KTR said the government was committed to increase their number. There are three benefits through delimitation of the districts, including easy and transparent governance, boost to second cadre leadership, removal of feudal system and efficient implementation of welfare schemes and development programs. He also said reorganization of the districts will prove handy through speedy delivery of services as well as redressal of the problems.
The MAUD Minister also expressed hope that delimitation of Assembly constituencies will be done. There is no need of an amendment to the Constitution for the purpose, he said. KTR also said it would be possible for delimitation of the Assembly segments through simple majority in Parliament, he observed. (NSS)
