Hyderabad, October 12: Three habitual offenders, who were involved in 18 burglaries, were arrested and property worth more than Rs 21 lakh recovered from them.
The gang is led by Md Siddiq alias Javeed alias Ashu alias Salman, a resident of Badangpet in Saroornagar. He along with his brothers-inlaw, Syed Anwar alias Sohail of Shalibanda and Syed Arshad of Borabanda, were involved in the offences.
“The accused would open the bolts by inserting hands through the windows adjacent to the doors and sneak into the houses at night,” Additional Commissioner of Police (crimes) N Narasimha Reddy told reporters on Sunday.
The trio were involved in 18 such offences since August 2006. They were arrested by the police in similar offences previously.
“They were caught after the police secured their fingerprints in a burglary at the house of N Srikanth, a private lecturer from Malakpet a few months back,” Narasimha Reddy said.
Though their involvement in the burglary at Malakpet was established three months back, police could arrest them only on October 2 from Borabanda. The trio were later taken into custody by the police and 1.23 kilo gold worth Rs 21 lakh and Rs 25,000 electronic items recovered from them.
The trio stole property worth more than Rs 50 lakh which includes 2.78 kilo gold worth Rs 45 lakh, Rs 2.02 lakh cash, 1,200 Australian dollars and other valuables.
“The recovered property constitutes only about 40-50 per cent of the booty stolen by the accused since the past three years,” Narasimha Reddy said.
They were involved in eight each cases of house burglaries at Malakpet and Chaderghat and one each at Banjara Hills and S R Nagar.
