Rs 18 lakh of madrasa funds embezzled, official held

Hyderabad: A senior assistant working in the Hyderabad DEO office was arrested by Central Crime Station sleuths on charges of misappropriation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) funds allotted to madrasas. M Yogender Kumar, 37, was arrested by the police at Kids Paradise Playschool in Aliabad.

As reported by the Times of India, Kumar, along with Sarva Shiksha Abhyan (SSA) employees Md. Zubair and K Nag Raj, siphoned off Rs 18.6 lakh funds allotted to madrasas for recruitment of Vidya volunteers.

The Sarva Shiksha Abhyan (SSA) is entrusted with bringing madrassa students into the mainstream.

According to CCS official, Yogender took Rs 50,000 bribe from prime accused Zubair to help him commit fraud and destroy key evidence. Following the arrest the accused was remanded in judicial custody.
