Housing, Endowment and Law Minister A Indrakaran Reddy today proposed Rs 14,664 crore budget for construction of some two lakh double bedroom houses for the poor in the State, including one lakh houses in the GHMC purview.
The minister would submit a report of his proposals to the Finance department to include the funds in the draft budget being prepared for the ensuing budget session in March first week.
At a high-level review meeting with officials at the Secretariat here on Tuesday, the minister said for GHMC alone housing facility needs Rs 7,750 crore and the rest of the segments the housing scheme needs Rs 6,194 crore. He discussed on the flagship program of the government to provide permanent shelter to the deserving poor in the State. The government was committed to provide houses to poor at any cost, he said and asked the officials to ensure houses for the poor and deserving.
It was being proposed to construct 60,000 houses in rural segments and 40,000 houses in towns for the poor. He also said it costs around Rs 527 crore for construction of 55,000 houses under IAY scheme and Rs 193 crore for construction of 18,672 houses under PMAY scheme respectively. He also said Rs 22 crore was needed for payment of salaries to the staff of the Endowments department. (NSS)
