Rs 144 cr for 500 lakes restoration

Transport Minister Mahender Reddy today exhorted the farmers and people to participate voluntarily in the restoration program of lakes, water bodies and ponds. Beginning lakes restoration works worth Rs 50 lakh at Kulkacherla near Pargi in Ranga Reddy district, and laying foundation stone for a cooperative building at a cost of Rs 25 lakh.
The minister said that Rs 144 cr will be spent for restoring 500 lakes in the district. He expressed concern that lands related to lakes in many of the towns were encroached. The Government will recover the encroached lands on getting details through a survey he said. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is transforming his dream become reality by massive lakes restoration program he said. The TRS Government is committed to distribute irrigation waters to the farmers to protect their crops he said. The flagship program of Mission Kakatiya will sure prove handy to the agriculture sector as the silt can be used as fertilizer he said. This is right to restore the dried up lakes to get back waters he said adding that once ground water table gets increased there will be no problem for the crops.
Timely distribution of irrigation waters in every season will help increase farm produce besides reaping in more benefits, he remarked. A total of 46,000 lakes and water bodies will be restored across the state, he added. (NSS)
