Rs 1200 to be spent for drinking water in rural areas

Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural water Supply K Jana Reddy on Tuesday informed the State Legislative Assembly that the government would spend around Rs 1200 to supply drinking water in rural areas.

Replying to a question raised by PRP MLA K Kannababu during Question Hour, Jana Reddy said that the government has spent Rs 800 last year and under the 13th Plan, Rs 350 crore would be spent. Of this, he said Rs 25 crore has already been released.

The minister said that 46 habitations in two mandals in Kakinada in East Godavari district have been provided with safe drinking water under various water schemes. He said 22 more habitations were provided safe water with hand pumps. He said a comprehensive scheme was cleared under NABARD for providing safe drinking water on permanent basis to rural areas of the constituency. (INN)
