From March onwards Beedi workers in the State are set to receive Rs 1,000 monthly pension as Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has taken a decision to this effect, said Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and Home Minister N Narsimha Reddy today.
Talking to mediapersons at Secretariat here, they said Chief Minister KCR has asked Poonam Malakondaiah Committee to find out beneficiaries and extend financial help to destitute children. The committee will tour for three days in Medak, Nizamaad and Karimnagar districts to find the beedi workers, they said. The government is committed for the welfare of beedi workers and other working class in the State. “Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has taken a decision to extend Aasara scheme to beedi workers after a review meeting”, they said.
They alleged that previous governments failed to keep their manifesto promises. Though TRS manifesto does not include this scheme, KCR has taken this decision to offer pension to beedi workers, they maintained. “Similarly our government has taken up fine rice scheme for students, water grid, lakes restoration, Harithaharam and other schemes in a big way, they claimed. It is the TRS government that was implementing welfare schemes after NTR regime that implemented same to some extent and in the meanwhile TD and Congress regimes ignored the plight of the people. “Our commitment is to ensure speedy disbursal of development benefits to the working class”, they said.
