As the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections are around the corner, the Loksatta Party members claim to have exposed a scam of Rs 100 crore that was swindled under the guise of vehicle repairs in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Party General Secretary G S Sambi Reddy stated that the irregularity was noticed when information was sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act over the 525-crore allocation made in the budget for maintenance of vehicles in GHMC during the past five years.
Officials are unable to account for nearly Rs 100-crore of what was sanctioned for repairs. Shockingly, it was also disclosed that GHMC incurred Rs 1.5 lakh expenditure for the maintenance of a motorcycle and Rs 1.24 lakh for a Bajaj Chetak for five years.
“The amounts spend by GHMC on the maintenance of vehicles was nearly four times the value of a new vehicle,” said an official.
