Rs 100 cr for modernization of Tirupati Airport

Hyderabad, May 25: The State Cabinet has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for construction of a modern airport at Renigunta in Tirupati to facilitate the pilgrims landing for the darshan of Lord Venkateshwara on Tirumala Hills.

A master plan for upgrading or extension of the existing Tirupati Airport was ready with a joint survey conducted by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and the State Government in 2008.

It has been decided to hand over 701 acres in Renigunta and Yerpedu mandals in Chittoor district to AAI for the cited airport to offer modern facilities to the visiting pilgrims, said Information and Public Relations Minister D K Aruna while briefing the newsmen here on Tuesday.

Rent for MLAs, MLCs

The State Cabinet has decided to promulgate an ordinance to amend AP Payment of Salaries and Pension and removal of disqualifications Act 1953 for enhancing the accommodation of allowance to MLAs and MLCs, who have not availed government accommodation.

The said MLAs and MLCs would get from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 per month for accommodation besides payment of Rs 1,000 each for electricity and water charges.
