A recent example of criminal negligence of Municipal Corporation was witnessed at the Muslim predominant area of Bilal Nagar Kalapathar, where 8 year old Mohammed Atif fell into the manhole near his house and died. The entire locality went into mourning following the shocking death of the innocent and intelligent boy.
Ayat-e-Karima majlis was being conducted at a house in Bilal Nagar on Sunday evening when 8-year-old Mohammed Atif son of Mr. Mohammed Moinuddin stepped out of his house and fell down into a manhole near his house and died. The manhole is located right at the centre of the road. Since the Ayat-e-Karima majlis was being conducted at the boy’s house no one noticed his absence for quite long. Later parents of Atif started searching for the boy when he did not return home. Missing announcements were made through Masajid loudspeakers. Later a local young boy informed that he had seen Atif slipping into the open manhole. With this statement efforts to retrieve Atif from the manhole began. Municipal staff was summoned; after a long struggle the boy could be retrieved from the manhole, who was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Mohammed Atif was extremely brilliant student of class 1st. He used to offer Fajr prayer in congregation.
Mayor has announced to give Rs. 1 lakh compensation to the victim’s parents. God knows how many innocent children will fall victim to the criminal negligence of municipal officials, before they wake up from the deep slumber and cover manholes and nalas. It must be noted that there are at least 11 uncovered manholes in the area.
