As per the directions of South Central Railway General Manager PKSrivastava, a massive week long Awareness Campaign was organised from 27th July to 3rd August by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) over South Central Railway against Trespassing at Level Crossing Gates.
The Campaign was meant to educate and create awareness amongst the road users/vehicalists on the need to be alert and safe while passing through the Railway Level Crossing Gates and later, initiate penal action against the violators.
During the course of the campaign, road users were counselled at busy/high traffic density Level Crossing Gates in the twin cities of Hyderabad/Secunderabad, as well as at various locations on all the Divisions of SCR. Around 8000 persons were counselled on the precautions to be taken at Level Crossing Gates, as part of this exercise.
Later on during this campaign, a total of 326 special drives were conducted by the RPF by deploying 567 personnel to nab and prosecute the violators. The State Transport Departments, Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Traffic Police of Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh were also associated in the drive. As a result, a total of 229 persons were penalized and an amount of Rs. 48,300/- was realized as fine. Out of these, 74 persons were dealt under Motor Vehicle Act and an amount of Rs. 31,100/- was realized, while 155 persons were dealt under section 147 of Railways Act, which resulted in realizing a fine of Rs. 17,200/-.
