Bangalore, February 25: A rowdy sheeter and his five associates have been arrested in connection with the murder of gangster-turned Janata Dal (Secular) corporator Haji Mohamad Ali alias Deewan Ali, police said.
Sheikh Mohammed Ajgar alias Mahim and his associates had been absconding since the murder of Ali, which took place on January 16, police said.
Acting on a tip off, officials of the city crime branch arrested Ajgar, 41, Salim Pasha, 32, Mohammed Pasha, 38, Mohammed Javid, 37, Nastru Pasha, 32, and Mohammed Kabir, 35, yesterday.
Ajgar has 15 cases lodged against him, including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and rioting, they said.
Police also seized a vehicle, weapons and mobile phones from the accused.
Ali, 37, was murdered and two of his aides were injured by some unidentified persons near his office in Banashankari area in the city on January 16.
