Bangalore, April 14: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Wednesday said he hoped the controversy over his remark on the members of the panel formed to draft the Lokpal Bill would end, because he fully supported Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption.
Addressing the media here at an interaction organised by the Bangalore Press Club and Bangalore Reporter’s Guild, Ramdev, who spoke about a “corruption-free Bharat”, made it clear that he did not belong to any political party. The 57-year-old spiritual leader of the masses who celebrated his birthday on Tuesday wants the Prime Minister to be included in the purview of the Jan Lokpal Bill.
He said, “Call me anything. I want to call this country Bharat — a spiritual country. I want to put the record straight: I don’t belong to any party. Talking about Jan Lokpal Bill and the controversy surrounding me, I don’t want to complicate things further as I am with Anna Hazare in his effort to fight corruption. I want the Prime Minister to be included in the purview of the Bill.”
He commented, “I have launched Anna Hazare in the north. I am with him. I know his capabilities. We need stringent laws to punish the corrupt.”
While he refused to join hands with Congress leader Gandhi who is organising youth to ‘build a modern India’, Ramdev also refrained from commenting on allegations of corruption against Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.
