Rouhani to break US sanctions; vows to continue selling oil

Tehran: Iran has greeted the re-imposition of United States sanctions with air defence drills. President Hassan Rouhani was defiant as the sanctions kicked in. He vowed to continue to sell its oil. In a meeting of economic affairs officials, he said we will proudly break the sanctions.

However, the European countries who are part of the nuclear accord have pledged that they will continue trade with Iran despite sanctions. Foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qasmi told an official TV that Iran has the ability to run its economic affairs. He said the US will not gain its political goals by such moves.

Meanwhile, Iran’s powerful Guardian Council on Sunday rejected a bill on joining the UN convention against terrorist financing seen as crucial to maintaining trade and banking ties with the world.
