Rosaiah urges Centre to increase MSP of Bengal gram

Hyderabad, October 14: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today asked the Centre to increase the minimum support price (MSP) for Bengal gram crop from present Rs 1,760 per quintal to Rs 3,000 along with an incentive of Rs 500.

“In the current year, the production of Bengal gram is about 6-7 quintals per acre. The expenditure towards labour and other investment components work out to about Rs 20,000 per acre, as a result in which the farmers are dissatisfied with the present MSP,” he said in a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

Rosaiah recalled that the Centre has announced a MSP of Rs 3,000 per quintal for Redgram with an additional incentive of Rs 500. “There is a need to increase MSP of Bengal gram also for the ensuing Rabi,” he said.
