Rosaiah shows solution to nala flooding

Hyderabad, June 04: Chief Minister K Rosaiah has directed reconstruction of a wider culvert at the Patny Compound to prevent flooding of residential colonies in Secunderabad during rains.

Taking up the long-pending issue at a meeting here on Thursday, the chief minister asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to take up the widening in coordination with the Cantonment Board, R&B, the HMDA, traffic police and other departments concerned.

The GHMC officials assured the chief minister of taking up the work after the monsoons.

However, the Cantonment Board agreed to clear the silt immediately for smooth flow of rain water in the nala and prevent flooding of huts and residential colonies. It was the Cantonment MLA, D Shankar Rao who brought the issue to the notice of the chief minister. He told the chief minister that during the rainy season there was frequent flooding of the nearby slums and colonies in Rasoolpura and Annanagar area.

The pipe culvert at the Patny Compound discharges the entire sewage into the main nala but due to the limited outflow on the other side whenever there is a heavy rain the back flow goes into the nearby colonies submerging them, sometimes in 3-foot deep water. The officials explained that the culvert had to be reconstructed to ensure free flow of water. The traffic police agreed to regulate traffic during the construction.

MAUD principal secretary TS Appa Rao, HMDA metropolitan commissioner BP Acharya, GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma and Cantonment Board officials were present.
