Rosaiah lauds efforts to work of welfare of differently abled

Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah today commended social service organisations like Rotary Club for their efforts to promote welfare of differently abled by involving them in activities like sports.

Giving away awards to winners in a badminton championship conducted under the aegis of Rotary for differently abled here, the Governor said that a significant section of our population was affected by some disability or the other. ‘Creating a barrier free environment for them is imperative. The initiatives taken by the Government and the NGOs like Rotary and others have helped a great deal to pay special attention to the welfare of the differently abled’, he pointed out. Encouraging and motivating the differently abled to feel that they are normal and enableing them to participate in activities like sports by organizing special sports meets has to be appreciated, he said.

He also commended the participation of more than 150 players from 17 states in badminton tournament, including international Para Olympians, national and district champions and three Arjuna Awardees.

‘This showcases their spirit, enthusiasm and competitive spirit to participate and excel in normal activities’, he observed. UNI
