Hyderabad, March 24: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today strongly condemned attack on the offices of Telugu newspaper Andhra Jyothy and its television channel and promised to take stern action against perpetrators.
“Already cases have been booked and some persons involved in the attacks have been taken into custody,” the Chief Minister told reporters in his chambers in state assembly.
It may be recalled that activists allegedly belonging to Praja Rajyam Party of Chiranjeevi attacked the offices of Andhra Jyothy in Hyderabad and some other places in the state after it carried a news report that the PRP was all set to shut its shop.
The Chief Minister said his government was all for freedom of press and would take all steps to uphold it. He said he would direct Minister for Home P Sabita Indra Reddy to convene a meeting of the state-level committee against attacks on journalists to discuss the steps to prevent such incidents in future. “We shall take all necessary steps to ensure that such attacks do not recur,” Rosaiah assured the journalists.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said he was awaiting an appointment from AICC chief Sonia Gandhi so that he could visit New Delhi.
