Rosaiah asks police to probe role of outsiders

Hyderabad, March 30: Chief Minister K Rosaiah today wanted the police to find out if any outside elements were involved in the communal riots that gripped the Old City since Saturday night.

He directed the officials to probe into the allegations over the role of outside elements and also not to spare those involved in the incidents.

The Chief Minister wanted the officials to post one special officer in each police station limits in the Old City area. He asked the Director General of Police and the City Police Commissioner to firmly deal with the situation and restore peace and normalcy in the Old City areas at the earliest.

Reviewing the situation with Ministers and senior officials at his Camp Office tonight, Rosaiah made it clear that people should not be put to any inconvenience and trouble.

The officials were asked to make a l l arrangements and facilitate supply and movement of drinking water, milk and other essential commodities apart from power without interruptions during the night in the troubled areas. While the municipal authorities have already provided lights in all the vulnerable areas in the City, the police deployed additional forces including Armed Reserve Police Forces in sufficient strength to ensure peace.

Rosaiah once again appealed to the people in general, people’s representatives, political parties, religious leaders and others concerned to restore communal amity in the City. He urged them to cooperate with the Government in maintaining peace and order in the Old City which is known for communal harmony.

He admitted that the disturbances had created widespread panic but assured the people that complete normalcy will be returned to the Old City soon. He also wanted the media to maintain restraint and avoid publishing comments that could exacerbate the situation.

Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy, Information and Public Relations Minister J Geetha Reddy, Health Minister D Nagender, BC Welfare Minister B Mukesh Goud, Chief Secretary SV Prasad, Director General of Police RR Girish Kumar and other officials were present.
