Rosaiah asks officials to complete Metro project

Hyderabad, October 25: Chief Minister K Rosaiah directed the authorities to complete the Metro Rail project by the end of 2014 and wanted the officials to strictly adhere to the schedule.

Rosaiah today reviewed the Metro Rail, MMTS second phase and railway projects in the State with the officials.

He said that the MRTS project has already been delayed and it should be put on fast track.

Officials informed that the ground work for Metro Rail would begin by May, 2010 and some important sections would be opened for traffic by March 2014 and it would be completed by end of the same year. Fresh pre-qualification bids would be received by November 2 and they will be finalised by January 22.

Meanwhile, it was decided in the meeting that the Chief Minister should ask the MPs of the State to bring pressure on the Centre about the pending railway projects in the State. The Chief Minister said that he would take up the issue of sanctioning of funds for MMTS Phase-2, introduction of new trains and merger of Visakhapatnam division with the SCR with the Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Describing the Metro Rail project as a dream of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Rosaiah wanted the officers to commence the ground work as early as possible. The Chief Minister also directed the officials to expedite works on MMTS phase-2 and directed that a committee be set up with senior officials to resolve issues with the Railway department.
