Johannesburg : Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has described the FA Cup victory as a ‘special moment’ after ending his long wait for the prestigious silverware.
United produced a resilient performance as they came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley last evening.
Rooney, who had been on the losing side in both of his previous FA Cup final appearances for United, said that he was delighted to have won the elusive title while pointing out that he grew up watching this competition as a fan, Sport24 reported.
The England international also admitted the victory would lift the morale of the team, who endured an otherwise troubled season with coach Louis van Gaal coming under constant criticism amid their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
This was the Old Trafford club’s first major trophy since legendary boss Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. (ANI)
