Each minaret of Charminar comprises of 4 rooms while two rooms were constructed on each floor. Thus the total number of rooms in the Charminar comes upto 20. Thanks to the criminal negligence of Archeological department some of the rooms of Charminar are used as junkyard. One of the rooms is the office of ASI supervisor which houses 4 chairs, two big tables, an almirah, two computers, an air cooler and a water cooler. No one is allowed to enter those rooms. Few rooms are being used by the Archaeological department as godown. Sadly the rooms which should be actually used to showcase the antiques and rare books of Qutub Shahi era so that national and foreign tourists could know the grandeur of the Qutub Shahi Period, are used as junkyard.
Recently responding to an RTI filed by an activist the department accepted that the Charminar is a historical masjid despite that the doors of the masjid are closed for the devotees.
