Room attender held for rape bid on singer

A hotel room attendant in south Delhi’s Mehrauli was arrested after he allegedly attempted to rape a 22- yea-rold singer from Kolkata, who had arrived in the Capital to perform at a function.

According to a senior police officer, the accused, identified as Deepak, works as a room attendant at Golden Tulip hotel at Mehrauli area. “He was detained and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.”

The officer said the accused, a native of Palwal in Haryana, was caught by the hotel staff and, after that, handed him over to them. He was arrested and booked under the charges of molestation and criminal intimidation.

On Thursday night, Deepak had entered the singer’s room to change the bed sheet. The accused had then attempted to sexually assault the singer. On hearing the girl’s scream, the hotel staff barged into the room and caught the accused red- handed.

The victim came along with her troupe a week ago and was performing at Chattarpur temple, said the police.
