Valencia: Two goals in the first nine minutes allowed Valencia record a 2-1 win over Real Madrid in their La Liga clash at Mestalla Stadium here last evening.
With the win, Valencia not only registered only their second victory over Madrid in 15 league meetings but also handed a major boost to Barcelona and Sevilla in La Liga’s title race.
Italian striker Simone Zaza opened the scoring for the home side by a spectacular turn and half-volley in the fourth minute before midfielder Fabian Orellana netted his fifth goal of the season just five minutes later,goal.com reported.
Subsequently, Cristiano Ronaldo pulled one back for his side just a minute before the end of a breathless first half to provide the Zinedine Zidane-led side with some hope.
Although Madrid enjoyed nearly 72 per cent of the possession in the second half, it was not just well enough to secure a win against Valencia.
Madrid, who are still standing at the top of the La Liga table just one point clear of Barcelona, will now lock horns with Villarreal on February 27. (ANI)
