The Romeo squad fades away in Meerut after a month

Meerut: A month later, anti-Romeo squad carried by UP police, does not seem the way they seemed before. When girls at RG girls’ PG college were writing their exam, boys were loitering outside.

According to a report by Hindustan times, the anti-Romeo squad, led by Yogi Adityanath was formed in order to curtail, incidents of women harassment and eve teasing. However, Meerut is back with no security even in the harassment-prone areas.

The chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, started the mission of anti-Romeo squad with the help of UP police and started raiding the malls, parks and other public places to stop the couples.

There were 15 cases of arrest in the vicinity of RG girls’ PG college one month ago, but now there is no police to be seen. When men were asked that what were they doing there, some said they did grocery and some just walked by.

Some students also pointed out the lack of determination of police to tackle the incidents of eve-teasing. Even the brothers of girls have started to drop their sisters at a distance from the college so that the police don’t arrest them.

The hype has faded away in a month, even near other colleges of Meerut, no policeman was present to stop boys from loitering around. The squad has been asked by the senior officials to act only when a complaint is lodged. Moreover, they are told not to arrest youngster couples randomly.
