Romanian suffers heavy crash in training

New delhi, February 12: Romanian luge athlete Violeta Stramaturaru was briefly knocked unconscious on Thursday after a high-speed crash at the Whistler Sliding Centre during an Olympic training run.

Stramaturaru lost control midway through her descent of the twisting track and was thrown into a side wall before sliding down the ice.

She was treated by trackside staff before being taken to a medial treatment centre on site. Her injuries are not thought to be too serious, a team official said.

Stramaturaru’s crash came after several men earlier suffered accidents in their training runs for the weekend’s singles — the first sliding event of the Games.
