Romania seeks to enhance ties with India

An all-party Parliamentary delegation from Romania on Tuesday called on Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu , stating that they wished to enhance their country’s ties with New Delhi in Parliamentary and economic spheres.

The ten-member delegation, which was led by Romania Chambers of Deputies president Valeriu Stefan Zgone, explored possibilities of enhancing bilateral cooperation between Bucharest and New Delhi, with both sides agreeing that the present trade of USD 666 million is inadequate to the potential and needs to be increased by identifying new areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.

During the meeting, Naidu briefed the Romanian delegation on various initiatives, including ‘Make in India’, ‘Skill India’ and the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. The two sides also exchanged views on urban development initiatives.

The political relations between India and Romania are warm, stable and friendly. The two nations have seen regular bilateral consultations between their Foreign Offices. There are several bilateral agreements between New Delhi and Bucharest, including on economic co-operation, culture, science and technology, textiles, nuclear energy and investment protection. (ANI)
