Role of Muslims in the changed scenario

In 1947, when India got independence, when Pakistan got separated and when communal massacres took place, Muslims were a confused lot. In North India, Muslims were leaderless and did not know what to do and how to attain peace and tranquility. In the South, Muslims were confident and peaceful.

There was no alternate political party other than Congress with secular minded persons like Nehru, Azad, Shastri, Nanda and Rajendra Prasad etc. So, Muslims threw their lot behind the Congress. But unfortunately thousands of communal riots took place in many States in India, resulting in death and destruction of Muslims and other innocent persons.

Congress was a silent spectator to this mayhem, planned and perpetuated by the communal forces. It failed to take prompt actions to stop this. With the destruction of the Babri Mosque in 1992 and the consequent blood bath, Muslims lost confidence in Congress. Fortunately, they had an alternative in the form of local secular parties in some of the states.

With the emergence of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as champions of secularism, anti-corruption and transparency, Muslims once again went close to Congress. But Congress is a party which does not respond to peoples’ suggestions nor their emails and SMS’s and phone calls. By this time in August 2013, Mr. Kejriwal launched the Aam Admi Party and decimated Congress in Delhi.

AAP is the creation of deep revulsion against the Congress and BJP by the common man. Their popularity soared every day and lakhs of people joined the party within weeks. AAP is not founded on the basis of religion, caste, creed, language, region and class. They never appealed to these aspects. It is a party which understands the aspirations of the common man and acts as per his wishes.

It is a party of simple people with simple needs and minimum requirements. It practices what other parties promise but fail to practice. As a result, people are attracted towards this party and it is gaining ascendency. None of its members are professional politicians and none are experienced in the modern day deceptive governance. Their only strength is their honesty, sincerity, openness, transparency, anti-corruption feeling, good governance and concern for the needs and wishes of the common man.

It is a four month old party with only one month’s governance in Delhi. One month is not sufficient to judge a party which has hundreds of issues to deal with. A minimum of one year is required to start implementing its promises. It looks as though its growing success has rattled and disturbed the sleep and peace of other national parties and they seem to be trying their best to destroy this party by sabotaging it from within. Some members of the AAP are openly criticizing the policies of their own party.

Unlike, other parties, Mr Kejriwal is welcoming criticism from ordinary members, but expecting high discipline from party spokespersons and office bearers. Important leaders of AAP are the ones who have sacrificed their successful careers ( top positions in Govt and MNCs ) to eradicate corruption and to serve the people and the country.

Mr Salman Khurshid’s comment that AAP is a party of bad smelling, poor and useless people, shows that Congress leaders are day dreaming. He forgot that these were the very people who were voting for Congress all along. AAP believes in immediate action and immediate justice and this is regarded by some, as over enthusiasm and immaturity. The fact is, that we are accustomed to lethargic actions for the last 60 years and now the game changing reaction is disturbing the followers of the old system.

As it is a party that has vowed to stop corruption, communal riots, inflation etc. It is advisable that honest and sincere Muslims join this party at its infant stage. Joining other parties is like putting a drop in the ocean, while joining AAP is like putting a cup of water in a glass. The Muslim community has got innumerable men of character, honesty, integrity, creative ability, progressive ideas and above all, concern for the country and the common man.

I urge the retired IAS, IPS and KAS officers and Mr. Azam Shahid, Ms. Sheema Mohsin, Mr. Hyder Nawaz, Mr. Maqbool Ahmed Siraj, Mr. Nayakwadi, Mr. Zahir ul Haq ( Mysore ), Mr. Tanveer Ahmed of Karnataka Muslims etc. to join the AAP immediately, in order to be of service to the Muslim community and the country. They can act as ideologues of the AAP and can become the eyes and ears of the party. They may or may not become the MLAs or MPs but can serve the community better. AAP is a second alternative to the Congress and other secular parties. When Kejriwal speaks, he speaks from the bottom of his heart with sincerity, honesty and wins everyone’s hearts.

If AAP gains political power in other states after 2014, it will repeat what it did in Delhi. The party must take care to identify the black sheep and weed them out before they can plan and execute their evil designs. AAP must snuff out those stalwarts and mavericks who enter it, just for their personal gains and not allow them to destroy the party, as was done during 1978 in the Janta Party. What AAP is doing is what a common man wishes to do but cannot do, call it anarchy or whatever you want. Those who debate on TV are white collared powerful persons who have never understood the aspirations of the common man. Both Congress and BJP have closed their eyes and ears and do not wish to admit that AAP is gaining.Courtesy: Karnataka Muslims

What AAP can do when it comes to power can be easily done today by Congress because it is now in power both in Centre and 13 States with Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the other face of Kejriwal. But the question is, will the Congress do it by shedding its ego and self righteous thinking? In Karnataka Mr Sidaramaiah has a good chance to do what Mr Kejriwal is doing in Delhi and make Karnataka a model State.
