The role of middlemen in accomplishing various affairs in waqf board is increasing day by day. Be it the matter of obtaining marriage certificate or modification and correction in the certificate, middlemen are extorting exorbitant amounts and chiseling the poor people.
Although the practice is continued for long, but it created uproar, when Commissioner Minority Welfare Mr. M A Waheed had to undergo a bitter experience in this regard. A very close relative of him was cheated by a broker in obtaining marriage certificate. When the matter was brought to Commissioner Minority Welfare he himself was surprised to see growing role of brokers. General Manager Minority Finance Corporation Vilayat Husain immediately sprung into action and caught a broker redheaded who was responsible for cheating the relative of Commissioner Minority Welfare despite collecting money from him.
As per the waqf board regulations, the fee for marriage certificate is Rs 200 and the certificate is issued within 4 days. While under tatkal scheme the certificate is issued within a day and the fee is Rs. 300, but brokers collect Rs. 500 to 1000 for the same.
