Roja gets respite in SC; Govt asked to sort out issue amicably

YSR Congress Party MLA R.K. Roja, who was suspended by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for one year for her “unruly” behaviour in the august House during the last session, got a respite in the Supreme Court on Friday.

The Apex Court, which resumed hearing on Roja’s petition on Friday, directed the Assembly Speaker to take Roja’s letter of explanation into consideration. Directing the Government counsel to hand over Roja’s letter to the Speaker, the court directed the AP government to take a decision on Roja’s explanation either in the regular session or a specially-convened session within eight weeks, otherwise it would hold hearing afresh in the case. The court also directed the Legislature authorities to allow the YSRCP member to participate in the affairs of the House.

The Supreme Court also advised the government not to make the trivial issue into a big one and sort it out amicably. Releasing guidelines in this regard, the Apex court adjourned the case to the first week of August this year. (NSS)
