Myanmar: Pope Francis was on a visit to Violence-hit Myanmar and shared the stage with Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi in the capital city Naypyidaw.
Though in his speech, Francis did not directly mention the name of Rohingya or alleged cleansing of minorities in the Buddhist dominated State, he referred to humanitarian emergency prevailing in the region.
Pope Francis said that peace can be achieved through Justice and respect for human rights and called for respect for each ethnic group and its identity.
Throughout his speech, Francis has repeatedly defended the group though he refrained from directly mentioning its name. But Pope’s words were of little comfort to Rohingya who suffered the bloodiest violence, their homes torched and driven out of their own homeland.
Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Prize Winner, has been widely criticized by the Global community for her tepid response to the plight of Rohingya.
Suu Kyi has been stripped of freedom of the Oxford award over her inaction in handling the raging refugee crisis.
