Roemer calls on Rosaiah

Hyderabad, October 23: American Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer has said that his country was working on a bilateral treaty with India for direct investments in infrastructure sector.

He stated that the treaty was at negotiation stage and would be ready in a few months time.

Roemer, after calling on Chief Minister K Rosaiah at his chambers in the Secretariat here today, described India as a dynamic and fascinating country. He said that it was his first visit to Hyderabad and that he had come on behalf of US president Barack Obama.

The US Ambassador stated that he met Governor ND Tiwari yesterday and was impressed to know the latter was a freedom fighter. He described the Chief Minister as a great leader and had an acumen on financial matters. Discussions with the Chief Minister were very productive, Roemer stated. The US Ambassador informed that he and the Chief Minister had discussed issues on which both countries could work together in future. The recent floods in the State also figured in their discussions and that both had talked about prevention of floods in the future.

He said he would meet business community and American Chamber of Commerce members to know what they were doing to create new opportunities in India.Roemer stated that his Government wants to reach out to the poor and wanted to provide lights, refrigerators and cooking stoves to them.
