Rockets hit US camp in S Iraq

Baghdad, April 20: Two rockets have targeted a US-run military camp in Iraq’s south-central province of Diwaniya, as Iraqi anti-American sentiments run high.

“Two rockets landed at 8:00pm on Monday on the Echo Camp in western Diwaniya,” Aswat al-Iraq news agency quoted a local military source as saying.

“The two rockets were launched from a region between al-Saniya, north of Diwaniya, and al-Daghara, northeast of Diwaniya,” said the official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

There were no immediate reports on the possible casualties or damage to property.

Locals have been calling for the US camp to be removed from its present location in Diwaniya, which lies 180 km south of Baghdad.
