Robbers strike at bank in Chhattisgarh, loot Rs 37 lakh

Korba:Unidentified robbers today looted Rs 37 lakh in cash and gold jewellery from a Canara Bank branch at Transport Nagar in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, police said.

The incident occurred around 10.30 AM when six people, wearing masks and carrying fire-arms, entered as soon as the branch opened, locked the bank staff and some customers in a room, and forced one of the employees to open the safety vault at gunpoint, District superintendent of police D Shravan said.

They took away Rs 37 lakh in cash and some gold jewellery but did not touch the worn out currency kept at the counter, the SP said, adding that the culprits appeared to be professionals.

They also took away CCTV camera and DVR (digital video recorder) in the bank, but police collected substantial footage from other CCTV cameras in the area and probe was on, Shravan said.
