Kabul, February 02: Provincial police chief Seyyed Agha Sagheb told Press TV that two policemen lost their lives and another sustained injuries on Thursday after their patrol car stumbled on a buried explosive device in the Parmakan area of Shindand district, situated 662 kilometers (412 miles) west of the Afghan capital Kabul.
Separately, two Afghan police officers were injured on Wednesday when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb as it was traveling along a road in the village of Azizabad, which is located in Shindand district and 644 km (400 miles) west of Kabul.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for both acts of violence.
Roadside bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are by far the most lethal weapon Taliban militants use against Afghan forces, foreign troops, and civilians in recent years.
The homemade explosives accounted for half of the about 1,500 civilian deaths in the first six months of last year, according to the United Nations.
The US-led invasion of Afghanistan took place in 2001. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan, despite the presence of thousands of US-led troops there.
