On road to help injured friends, man crushed

Chandigarh, August 04: A 26-year-old man died in an accident near the Botanical Garden early on Monday morning. Gurmeet Singh had stepped out of his car to help his friends whose Swift car hit a tree near the Botanical Garden when the accident took place. A speeding Santro car hit him.

Gurmeet Singh, a farmer who lived in Kishangarh, is survived by his wife and two children.

The accident took place around 4 am when Gurmeet was examining the damaged Swift car, which hit a tree after the driver lost control while crossing a speed breaker.

Raghu Nath, Sanjeev, Harish and Rohit were travelling in the Swift car (CH04 H 6570) and Gurmeet, Manoj and Ashok in the Hyundai Accent car (CH03 U 0184). The friends were returning from Amritsar after paying homage at the Golden Temple.

After the Swift car collided with a tree, Raghu Nath called his friends in the Accent car for help. Soon, Manoj, Gurmeet and Ashok reached the spot.

Manoj, who was driving the Accent car, took the injured to the hospital, while Gurmeet and Ashok stayed back at the accident spot.

As Gurmeet was examining the Swift car, a speeding Santro hit him. He was rushed to PGI where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The police have booked the driver of the Santro car (HP31-7458), Harminder Singh, under Section 279, 337 and 304 A of the IPC. Harminder is a resident of Bhojpur village, Mandi district.
